Tusked Frog
Adelotus brevis

In General

The Tusked Frog is one of the more vulnerable frog species not only in the Redlands but in the country. They have a dark brown back with small warts, usually with a butterfly shaped marking on the head. They have a black and white mottled belly with bright red inner thighs. The males have 2 tusk like teeth they use to battle other males during the breeding season.

Diet

Small insects, mosquito larvae, other small water borne larvae.

Habitat

Rainforest, open grasslands and wet eucalypt forest. Always found near water.

Breeding

Males will call to the females in spring and summer and will fight other males for territory using their tusks. The female will lay hundreds of eggs in a foamy mass.
