Striped Marsh Frog
Limnodynastes peroni

In General

This frog is often found around permanent water sources, living amongst reeds. It is an almost constant feeder, eating just about anything it can catch and swallow. Its call is sometimes compared to that of a hen clucking after it has laid an egg.

Diet

Small insects, mosquito larvae, other small water borne larvae and other small frogs.

Habitat

Dams, lagoons, swamps, creeks and waterways.

Breeding

Breeding occurs between August and March. Males can be heard calling at night to females. The female can lay up to 1000 eggs, which are often concealed amongst floating vegetation. The tadpoles are large and very dark in colour.
