In General

The Spotted Python is a non-venomous snake that is particularly popular amongst snake enthusiasts as a captive kept animal. An adult measures about 100cm to 140cm in length. Their colouration tends to be a dark brown blotched pattern on top of a caramel colour.

They are a fairly placid snake with an easy going temperament.

Breeding

Mating occurs April through August. The female will lay between 4 and 16 eggs which hatch between 50 to 60 days later. The young are completely independent after hatching. Snakes, as with many other reptiles will stay in the egg for a period of time after breaking through the shell. This allows the young to absorb the yolk and gain vital energy.
