Scaly Breasted Lorikeet
Trichoglossus chlorolepidotus

In General

Did you know that the Scaly Breasted Lorikeet is the only member of the Lorikeet family to have an all green head?

The Scaly Breasted Lorikeet is somewhat smaller than its more well known relative the Rainbow Lorikeet and much more timid. They can often be seen amongst flocks of Rainbow Lorikeets.

Diet

Nectar, fruit and seeds.

Habitat

Eucalypt forest and woodlands as well as suburban backyards.

Breeding

Nesting takes place in tree hollows, to which the Scribbly Gum is perfect due to its limb dropping tendencies, which over time result in perfect nesting hollows.

Both parents assist in rearing young, with the female incubating the eggs and the male feeding her. The clutch usually consists of 2 eggs and they have been known to lay up to 2 clutches per year if conditions are favourable.
