Eastern Water Dragon
Physignathus lesuerii

In General

Did you know that this lizard can remain submergd for up to 1 hour? They grow to a length of about 70cm, have enlarged scales that run down the centre of the head, back and tail forming a crest. IN the wild they can live for up to 20 years

Diet

Small reptiles, fruit, insects, worms and small frogs. They are adept scavengers.

Habitat

Dams, lagoons, swamps, creeks and waterways.

Breeding

One male Eastern Water Dragon will happily see to a group of females, sometimes up to 10. Females will lay between 6 to 18 eggs in a hole dug in sandy soil. The eggs hatch in about 3 months, depending on temperature and the young are completely independent after hatching.
