Brown Honeyeater
Lichmera indistincta

In General

The Brown Honeyeater is a small bird that is often hard to observe due to its fast, darting flight habits. It is often found alone or in small groups. Its long, curved beak is suited to extracting nectar from flowers.

It prefers heavy foliage where it can remain hidden from larger birds like the Noisy Miner which seek to drive it away.

Diet

Nectar and small insects.

Habitat

Heavily wooded forest close to waterways as well as saltmarsh and mangrove areas .

Breeding

Both parents play an ongoing role in the breeding process. The male defends the female as she builds a small cup shaped nest hidden amongst thick foliage. The birds nest in the same area every year. Two eggs are laid between June and January.
