In General

This bird is a relative of the well known Kookaburra. The Azure Kingfisher is about is about 18cm and 35 grams. It has a beautiful blue-purple, or azure coloured head and back with a creamy- brown belly.

Our impacts on waterways directly impact the Azure Kingfisher's ability to survive. Polluted waterways choked with weed and made turbid by introduced species like European Carp make it difficult or impossible for this bird to feed.

Small fish, insects, crustaceans and small frogs.
